Become a Psychology Peer Advisor!

Peer Advisors are Psychology majors who are trained to assist other psychology students.  They provide information regarding class schedules, tutoring, departmental, and university policies, and help students get connected to valuable resources.

Requirements

  • Must be a Psychology major
  • Have a minimum of a 3.2 GPA
  • 50 earned credit hours
  • Be able to commit to one year of working as a peer advisor (fall and spring semester)
  • Participate in an intensive training program for credit (PSYC3807)
  • Have a genuine desire to help student by advising, tutoring, and connecting them with professors, faculty, staff, peers, and other students
  • Ability to commit, on average, 3 – 5 hours per week to student, department, and individual project involvement
  • Must be available 1:00pm – 2:00pm on Fridays for training

Responsibilities

  • Create awareness of the undergraduate policies and procedures in the Department of Psychological Science and the university
  • Provide students with accurate information about various resources at the university and make referrals when appropriate
  • Engage students in the course selection process as they work toward achieving their educational and career goals
  • Uphold a positive and professional manner when interacting with students, faculty, and staff
  • Participate in and facilitate departmental projects and programs (EXPLORE, SOAR, and Advising Clinics)
  • Be a representative of the Department of Psychological Science
